summer skin care myths As the summer is upon us we all look forward to spending more time outdoors. We want to enjoy the summer, but we should not forget that protection against the harsh sun is necessary. Many myths have developed over time regarding taking care of the skin in the summer. Let us look at these myths and also the best way to take care of our skin during the summer.

Myth ? Darker complexions don?t need much protection from the sun

The damaging UV rays of the sun can cause harm to all types of skin irrespective of your ethnicity and this is why even people with darker skin should use sunscreen creams and lotions. The best time to start protecting your skin is right from childhood. Parents should educate their children regarding protection against the sun. This is because the harmful effects of the UV rays are cumulative and this is why it is necessary to take protection from them at an early age.

Myth ? A daily moisturizer with sunscreen can give all day protection

The fact is that whatever form the sunscreen you are using it is necessary to apply it every 2 hours. According to studies most people apply less than the amount of sunscreen required. The protection of the sun screen fades away after a couple of hours. You should also reapply sunscreen every time you sweat or get wet along with applying it every two hours. You should also check the bottle of the sunscreen because usually the label mentions how long the sunscreen is water proof.

Myth ? You don?t need sun screen because you are wearing enough clothes

The usual cotton or linen material has an SPF of 5 only and this means that you can get sunburned through your shirt also. It is a good idea to opt for sun protective fabrics which have a higher UPF. There are fabrics which absorb the UV rays of the sun and this factor is known as UPF. There are many fashionable options which have a high UPF and it is a good idea to wear them during the summer. As far as regular cotton or any other material is concerned, you will need to use a sunscreen lotion.

Myth ? Sunlight through windows or inside a car is not harmful

The UV rays can go through glass and cause damage to the skin. Glass usually blocks the UVB rays out of the two rays of the UV light of the sun. UV rays consist of UVA and UVB. Glass is not able to resist UVA rays. Hence even when we are in a car or near a window, the UVA rays can cause damage to the skin. This is why it is necessary to wear sunscreen. The more you protect your skin the better and it is also true that in spite of the care that we take the sun does manage to cause harm to the skin. For countering this factor it is a good idea to take supplements like Chicnutrix Super C and Chicnutrix Mighty Omega. The former contains vitamin C and glutathione and the latter contains Omega 3 fatty acids. All these are antioxidants and can protect you from the harmful effects of the UV rays that may have already penetrated your skin.
