tips for hair looking gorgeous Colored hair requires extra care if you want the color to last longer. What could be worse than spending all the money at the salon to get your hair colored and then have it fade away within a short time due to improper hair care? It doesn?t matter what color you have on your hair, a little extra precaution is necessary because color in the hair can fade away fast if you don?t take proper care of your hair. Let us look at the things that you should and should not do to make your colored tresses look gorgeous for along time.

Wait for 72 hours before shampooing your hair

When you apply color to your hair then your cuticle layer becomes open. This makes it easier for the color to penetrate the shaft of the hair. If you wash your hair soon after coloring it the cuticle layer will still be open which will cause the color to get washed out. The cuticle layer takes up to 3 days to close completely. Hence the longer you wait after coloring to wash your hair, the more time the color pigment will get to soak into the cuticle of the hair. This in turn will make your color last longer.

Do not wash hair everyday

You should avoid washing your hair everyday even though it seems to give you a good feeling. If you wash hair every day, you will not only wash out the natural oils and moisture in the hair which makes your hair look fresh. You will also end up washing the color in your hair gradually. It is better to wash your hair every alternate day or better still 2-3 times a week to keep your color on your hair.

Make use of sulfate free shampoo and conditioner

Sodium laureth sulfate is a kind of anionic detergent that is found in some products meant for hair and personal care. This compound gives the foaming effect of the shampoo and conditioners. If you use sulfate containing shampoo and conditioner, then not only will it strip your hair of the natural oils and moisture, but it will also lead to stripping of your lovely hair color.

Don?t use hot water for washing your hair

Hot showers give you an amazing feeling, but they are not good for your hair color. If you wash your hair with hot water the cuticle of the hair opens up. This will cause your hair color to wash out with the shampoo and conditioner. If you do not want to see your color go down the drain then you should shampoo with slightly warm water and then rinse with cold water while conditioning. The warm water will help the shampoo and conditioner to penetrate and cleanse and the cold water will seal the moisture from the conditioner. This will also prevent the color from fading away. A little care will ensure that your colored tresses look great for a long time. Whether you have opted for brunette, blond, black, red or even blue hair it will continue to look gorgeous for a long time, till your hair grows longer and you need to touch up the roots again.
