Published : July 2, 2021 8 mins read Updated On : Mar 22, 2024

Important Monsoon Skin Care Tips:

The rainy season brings respite from the scorching heat of the summer. However, it also brings typical skin problems. Along with spells of rain, the monsoon season brings with it humidity that can cause a lot of problems for the skin.

The humidity is why you need a particular monsoon skin-care routine in the rainy season. The problem is more severe in people with oily and acne prone skin.

The monsoon skin care tips are a need-to-know fact because the skin-care routine should differ each season. The thumb rule is to cleanse, tone, and moisturise. But during the monsoon, you need to do a little extra for your skin.

Beauty Skin Care Tips For The Rainy Season:

Just because the day is cloudy doesn't mean that your skin is safe from the UV rays. Your skin still needs the protection of a good sunscreen.

Washing your face often can cause dry skin. It is necessary to wash your face 2-3 times a day to remove the excess oil and dirt and also to avoid fungal infection. Make sure to use a mild and natural face wash.

Hydrate yourself well so that the toxins get flushed out of the body and prevent acne and pimples, which can further cause dark spots.

Avoid wearing makeup because it can clog the pores, which can cause acne and breakouts. If you do wear makeup, then remove it thoroughly before going to bed.

Healthy and clean eating is a vital care routine that benefits the skin in many ways! During the monsoon, there is a craving for fried snacks. However, it would help if you avoided them because they can cause acne and breakouts.

Here Are Some Minimalist Skin Care Tips For Glowing Skin:

Exfoliating In The Monsoon:

You might have noticed your skin tone dull during monsoon, so exfoliation is necessary to remove the dead skin cells and help unclog the pores. Greasiness on the skin's surface can affect the skin tone making it look dull and lifeless!

Exfoliating is especially a must for every skin type during the monsoon. You can opt for natural exfoliating agents like sugar, baking soda, coffee, tea bags, oatmeal, papaya, and yoghurt. Use these mild abrasive ingredients to remove the dead cells from your skin.

Exfoliating According To Skin Type:

Sensitive Skin:

Sensitive skin type has many limitations when it comes to skin-care. Especially exfoliating, since this requires using the abrasive product, cloth, or sponge to remove dead cells from the skin's surface. The harsh chemicals or movements can easily cause your skin to break out or have a rash. That's why it is wise to perform a patch test before using any product on the face!

However, natural ingredients like oats mixed with a bit of honey and coconut milk will make for a very mild exfoliant for a sensitive skin type.

Exfoliate once a week using gentle circular motions to remove any dead skin and gunk off of your face. Do not rub too hard for too long! And once done, use cotton pads to remove the exfoliant and room temperature or lukewarm water to wash off. After exfoliation, use mild, sulfate-free face wash followed by a toner and serum of choice.

The most sensitive skin on our face is undereye skin. It is the thinnest and can get damaged easily, so include an undereye cream to lock in moisture and keep it healthy.

It may seem like you don't need sunscreen during monsoon, but that's a big myth! You may not see the sun on a cloudy day, but that doesn't mean it's not there! UV rays are present during monsoon and can hamper your skin. So, make sure after a good lather of moisturiser, you put on sunscreen to wind up skin care.

Many skin care products for sensitive skin are available on the market. Study the ingredients carefully or consult a dermatologist.

Dry Skin:

Exfoliation is an absolute must for dry skin at least once or twice a week. Dry skin does not produce adequate sebum, and hence the skin feels dry and flaky. So, it is essential to remove the dead skin cells from the surface. Use products that are mild with medium abrasion. Cream-based exfoliators work best for dry skin as they will prevent the skin from drying out. Be sure to clean any residue with clean water and a sulfate-free soap. Then, follow it up by using a toner, serum, creamy moisturiser, and sunscreen.

Oily Skin:

Oily skin produces a lot of sebum and attracts dust and gunk that can clog the pores. Exfoliate twice or thrice a week with medium abrasion exfoliants. Cleanse the face using a face wash or cleanser and steam to open the pores. Steaming will help unclog the pores and prevent breakouts.

Salicylic acid-based exfoliants, cleansers, serums, or toners are a lifesaver for a person with oily skin. Look for the ones that suit your skin type or consult a dermatologist.

And don't think oily skin does not require moisturiser; it is a myth! Moisturising is essential for every skin type!

Use lightweight or gel-based moisturisers that are not too heavy for the skin and will not clog the pores.

Make sure you use correct exfoliants and cleansers that will not strip the skin of its natural oil. Oily skin does not mean harsh chemical-ridden products will work the best! It will be too harmful to the skin's natural barrier. Instead, opt for milder products with the correct ingredients.

Combination skin:

Combination skin feels oily on the T zone of the face that is the centre of the forehead, nose, cheek, and chin.

Use medium abrasive exfoliants focusing on the T zone to unclog pores and remove any gunk from the surface.

Use circular motions to gently remove hardened sebum from the pores and let your skin breathe.

Follow up with a toner to close the cleared pores and a gel-based moisturiser to seal the moisture.

Cleansing In Monsoon:

Once you have exfoliated your skin use a mild cleanser to clean open pores. Choose a cleanser that will not hamper the skin's natural barrier and moisture depending on the skin type and unique needs.

Cleansers for sensitive and dry skin types are creamy and rich in consistency. In contrast, cleansers for combination and oily skin are foamy or clear.

Remember that the skin should not feel dry, stretched, or pulled after using a cleanser. If you think your skin feels tight after using the cleanser, that means it is too drying and is stripping your skin off of its natural oil.

Change the cleanser or consult a dermatologist to get hold of a suitable cleanser!

Toning In Monsoon:

Toning is necessary to remove the leftover dirt and makeup. Toner also balances the pH level of the skin. You can use store-bought toners but take note of the ingredients. Choose toners with no alcohol content, which can dry off the skin. You can also use natural ingredients like green tea, rose water, lemon juice, chamomile tea, and cucumber water. If your skin is sensitive, then you should consult your dermatologist.

Toning helps to clear out pores and close them, and we should not skip it.

Moisturising In Monsoon:

Depending on the needs of your skin, choose chemical-free and skin-safe moisturisers. For dry skin, oil-based or creamy moisturisers work wonders. And, for oily skin or combination, opt for gel-based or light moisturisers.

Include these simple yet effective tips for glowing skin to maintain the correct pH level and overall health of the skin.

According to the season and type of skin, you may have to use products needed for the particular season!

You will have to experiment or examine how your skin feels to decide on skin-care products.

No matter the skin type, there will be a few changes in sebum production,

Skin Hygiene:

Nighttime Skin Care:

All the products that go on your skin will attract germs, dirt, and dust particles and will stick dead skin cells to the skin.

So, you must maintain overall hygiene by following a CTM routine twice. Once when you get ready in the morning and once when you get ready for bed!

A nighttime routine is essential to help your skin stay clean and hydrated while you sleep. Because when you fall asleep, your skin is slowly recovering from all the damage it withstood throughout the day!

Hygiene:

This one is the most crucial! All the gadgets like earphones, mobile phones, or skin care gadgets that come in contact with the face must be germ-free! After every use, wipe clean the screen of your mobile phone and earplug your earphones along with the wire.

Also, makeup tools like brushes and beauty blenders will accumulate bacteria because of excess moisture in the air. So, cleaning them in intervals and letting them dry or air out is essential. Do not store them immediately in a pouch which will trap moisture and cause bacteria to grow.

Ensure proper hygiene during skin-care or makeup.

During monsoon, your skin will feel different from how it does during summer and winter. Monsoon is complex weather; it is chilled like winter yet sometimes hot like summer.

Your skin will react to the fluctuation of temperature. You will have to adjust your skin-care according to it, but the best way to care for the skin is to boost its ability to protect itself. Supplements are how you can ensure that your skin is healthy from the inside!
