Did you know that 1 in every 10 women are thought to be affected by PCOS in the world, but in India 1 in every 5 women which is about 20%, suffer from PCOS in India.?

What is PCOS?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects the hormone levels of a woman of reproductive age. Women with PCOS produce higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones - androgens and testosterones, which causes hormonal imbalances that leads to the problems in the ovaries. PCOS causes irregular periods and may lead to infertility and development of cysts. Most importantly, PCOS can happen at any age after puberty.

Different studies in India on PCOS have reported a prevalence of 3.7% to 22.5% and even up to 36% in adolescents. PCOS has a very high percentage of individuals who remain undiagnosed when visiting their doctor, estimated to be as high as 75%. A statistical report by Futterweit, estimated that 50%-75% of women with PCOS are unaware that they even have this syndrome.

The exact PCOS causes are not known, but most experts believe the following factors play role in PCOS

  1. High levels of insulin
  2. High levels of androgens
  3. Increase in inflammation
  4. Genetics

What are the symptoms of PCOS?

Here are some of the first signs of PCOS and symptoms of PCOS you can be on a lookout for:

Treatment for PCOS

Traditional treatments for PCOS include birth control pills to regularize periods, a medication called metformin to prevent diabetes, statins to control high cholesterol, hormones to increase fertility and procedures to remove excess hair. But these treatments are not without any side effects. Some women who take metformin have some temporary gastrointestinal side effects which include nausea, abdominal bloating, vomiting and loss of appetite. Some of the more common side effects associated with hormonal contraceptive medication include mood changes, weight gain or loss, bloating, breast tenderness, irregular bleeding, diarrhea, loss of appetite. These side effects can differ, depending on the estrogen and progesterone content of the pill or device.

As traditional treatment plays its role in treating the symptoms of PCOS, it is essential to target the root cause of PCOS. To target the root cause and help you manage your PCOS with the right nutrients, we have launched a new supplement, India's 1st ever Effervescent supplement for PCOS, to help our Cysters in their fight against PCOS and ensure that we are #StrongerThanPCOS.

Yes, our new launch, Chicnutrix Cysterhood made with Swiss Effervescent Technology and a 100% vegetarian supplement with no added sugar will help in PCOS Management. It is formulated with 600 mg of clinically proven N-acetylcysteine and Vitamin C that will help regulate your hormones, your periods and the health of your ovaries.

What is N-acetylcysteine?

N-acetylcysteine or more popularly known as NAC, is a precursor in the production of the antioxidants and which will in turn help our body produce powerful antioxidants to fight oxidative stress and reduce inflammation. As women with PCOS have been shown to have higher levels of oxidative stress than women without PCOS. What these high levels of oxidative stress can do is generate free radicals and damage the cells and can also promote inflammation which in turn worsens the metabolic complications of PCOS. The metabolic complication of PCOS includes insulin resistance, fatty liver and high cholesterol which then leads to an array of medicines to combat these problems. It is essential to boost antioxidant production to combat oxidative stress and free radicals.

NAC also balances the hormones by lowering androgens and testosterone. PCOS women have higher than normal levels of these hormones, balancing them helps regulate the menstrual cycle and helps promote ovulation and in turn improve reproductive health. Balancing these hormones also helps reduce acne, facial hair, and hair loss

Well, that's not it! NAC also improves insulin resistance, which is a major cause of weight problems in PCOS women. Improving insulin resistance helps in managing PCOS-caused weight gain.

Why Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that boosts the immune system. It helps NAC with antioxidant activities such as reducing oxidative stress and helps reduce inflammation. It also helps reduce testosterone levels and restore reproductive cycling.

The powerful combination of N-acetylcysteine and Vitamin C helps with PCOS management in a yummylicious fizzy drink. The Swiss Effervescent Technology ensures faster absorption, increased efficiency and higher bioavailability. It is non GMO, 100% vegan, doctor-approved and made with clinically tested ingredients. It is available in yummylicious strawberry flavor with no added sugar. Each tube contains 20 tablets. Just pop one tablet a day, fizz and cheers to the Cysterhood.
